Very cool version of Bixby Canyon Bridge as it was cool seeing what everyone is actually doing in that song. Ben's e-bow in the "drea-ea-eam" part was a nice surprise, but of course that's what it was! And nick's evil bass swells during the last verse = awesome.

I knew it wasn't just a pick!

What is an e-bow, exactly?

It's a small handheld thingie that creates a magnetic field that makes the strings vibrate (making it unnecessary to pick or pluck the strings). It works almost like an electronic violin bow on the strings, hence the name, making it possible to sustain notes for a long time. Most people also use it to experiment with making the guitar sound different, such as making a guitar sound almost cello-like (which was something R.E.M. made famous on the single "E-bow the letter").

It's actually surprisingly old, just looked it up... was originally used by country bands and the like. I know Radiohead has used it a lot since Ok Computer. EDIT: No, of course, Ed uses it to make the background noises in the intro of "My Iron Lung" from the Bends.

You can do all sorts of things with it as it reacts differently to different pickups (because of the magnetic response).. Holding it at different angles also creates different sounds. Always wanted to get one...

Anyone else having trouble getting Grapevine Fires to play all the way through? It'll start for me, then stop at the same point every time.
