26CHI and JAM present REVENGE OF THE BOOK EATERS, a night that brings together songwriters, authors, and comedians for a rare literature-meets-music event, with BEN GIBBARD (in a solo acoustic performance), JOHN RODERICK (of The Long Winters), DAVE EGGERS (best-selling author of A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius), IRA GLASS (host of public radio's This American Life), and ZZ PACKER (author of the critically-acclaimed Drinking Coffee Elsewhere) and in an evening that promises once and for all to settle the debate: words or musicwhich is better?

God I hope someone records this show

Thanks

Good show, I just got back. It was a fundraiser for a children's education fund and had a lot of speakers and some musicians so no one got a whole lot of time and Ben was unfortunately no exception (although he did play longer than anyone else). I was in the third seat back from the stage on the left side so I had a really nice view. Really quick setlist:

Brand New Colony
Title and Registration
Soul Meets Body - on piano
It Makes No Difference (by The Band) - on piano
Passenger Seat - on piano
Slow Fade (by Teenage Fanclub) - on piano
I Will Follow You Into the Dark
Such Great Heights
The Sound of Settling

Then, since this was a fundraiser, they had promised that if over $5,000 was raised in the crowd, Ben would do the worst song ever/a Neil Diamond song with John Roderick. It was raised and they paid up by playing "Porcupine Pie", a song I don't need to hear ever again. It was amusing, though.

All in all, a good time. I didn't get any audio or video, so hopefully someone else did.

Just to clarify they weren't my clips or pix; I'm just a really savvy google/flicr/youtube/technorati searcher. I did find another clip today of the event it is 9 minutes long and it has Fred's complete impression of Ben as well as Ben playing Brand New Colony' & 'I Will Follow You Into The Dark' Enjoy!
