explosions in the sky???

Love em...but hey, like death cab?
I havent really understood the concept of listening to band that sound like eachother. let death cab be death cab and keep looking for other bands to enjoy.

I can´t stress enough how much Nada Surf is in my ears theese days...all because of Barsuk Records. They were nothin but the song "Popular" (wich I didnt like much to say the least...) to me before I got around to listen to Let Go...man it blew me away!

Also check out Mew, Euroboys and José Gonzales.

The only Nada Surf song I've heard is their cover of "If You Leave". Can you recommend some for me?

"the beauty of death cab for cutie"

Mae~

Nice Tara McPherson art work!! I email her recently to get a copy of that print but it doesn't exist any more.

As far as bands "like" Death Cab.... there really is no one else- but when I'm looking for something in the same vain as the boys (specifically Plans), I bust out some Red House Painters.

Try Teenage Fanclub, The Shins, maybe some Fountains of Wayne. The Decemberists are different, but still cool, just in a very different way, like historical literary indie heroes.

It might be a stretch to say he sounds like Death Cab, but Elliot Smith. I just really started getting into his music. Listen. You won't be disappointed. I also agree on Nada Surf. Both Let Go and their brand new record, The Weight is a Gift are outstanding (and slightly Deathcabesque).

I actually heard of Death Cab through Eels fans. But nobody seems to know who the eels are which to me seems so strange because their music is right in the same vein as all these other bands that everyone seems to have heard of. I can't explain it, I guess it has to do with what kind of record label the band is signed to? And how much radio air play they get? I mean it seems that Death Cab are no longer "unheard" of. two out of three people who know or are even a little into music will have heard of them, but it seems just from reading your posts and all that that hasn't been the case until just recently, but why? Was it because they signed onto a different label? I guess I just don't understand how all of the legal technicalities work. Just, where is the line between "Never heard of" to "Sold out shows"? That is what i mean.

theres another thread similar to this, but I'm bored so...

Rilo Kiley
The Postal Service
Wilco
Shout Out Louds
The Shins
The Stills
Belle and Sebastian
The Robot Ate Me
Pedro The Lion (haha I so miss that as your user name James)
The Decembrists
The Reindeer Section
Radiohead

yeah that's all I can think of right now. Your mae refrence made me laugh soooo hard. I have nothing against mae it just reminds me of an inside joke.
