Hello.
I got a 4-track recorder for Christmas, and I'm beginning to do my own cover of Your Bruise.
My question: I know each guitars' part, so I can overdub it to sound like the song, nearly perfectly. Is that wrong? I mean, most people tell me that when I cover a song I should make it my own, but the song by itself is flawless, and I love how both guitars harmonize so well; that's what I want to capture in my version. I just need some opinions on if I should mix it up at all.

Thanks, have a Happy New Year.

This song is a bit different than most in regards to covering it, because your right it does go well already and to do something otherwise I don't think would produce great results in most cases. Just do it as you were planning on doing it, and post it here.

Thanks, I'm done recording all the guitars, I just need vocals, and then I'll master it and figure out how to get it up here. It converts to WAV files, so I'm not sure if that will cause a problem with anything.

Look for the "Covers 2008" thread in here somewhere and post it there.

And that reminds me, we'll need a new one soon.

You can keep the guitars the way they are, and maybe add a new keyboard/guitar/drum machine beat that makes it stand out. So you give it a new sound maybe, without changing much.
That's what i tried to do with the Postman cover i did some weeks ago ... then again i completely cheated and used a billion computer tracks.

Anyway, can't wait to hear it! Your Bruise is my favourite off Airplanes.

Ok, I'll upload it soon. Its only guitars and vocals, I don't own a drum machine.
This is the first song I've ever recorded using this 4-track; I'll have to re-record it with drums and bass in the future.

If the tempo is somewhat steady I could perhaps create a beat. When it's uploaded I'll play around a little with it and see what I can do Smiler
