I loved this video. I loved it enough to join this forum to post my interpretation of it.

First of all, I think the sound is a very important part of this song. One of the most important things to note, is the sound of a xylophone/chime that plays at the end of the track (off the CD, not the video) which plays at the beginning of the video, and the song restarting at the end of the video. The first thing this made me think of was that this was all just a vicious circle that kept repeating.

Another intense, but I feel important, part of the video was the cutting scene. From what I've read above, it mean "to madness", which makes a lot of sense. When I saw this scene, it made me think she was alive. I don't think that if she was dead, she would be haunting him like that.

I really wish the video wasn't down so I could watch it and have a fresh perspective and not be running on memories, is anyone else having problems viewing it?

it seems to be loading fine here. Maybe try clearing your cache and try again?

I agree that they did a really good job with the sound in the video.

Thanks for the inclusion. I like your interpretation too. And now that you brought up your point about her not being dead, maybe they're in a classic co-dependent relationship where they can't leave each other, yet they can't bring themselves to love one another completely, and the cutting is her way of trying anything she can to get him to care for her.

??? What do you think?

Now he's replaying it over and over in his mind and her spirit is trying over and over to get him to see her pain.

Just my interpretation.

I didn't really "get it," and it kinda freaked me out (and I barely know any French (assuming that was French...(hehe))), but I give it points for being unique, and the part where the boyfriend(?) was crying was quite touching to me... Smiler P.S. It was awesome bein' in the second row standin' at the Portland DCfC show, where I sang along to almost every song and "grooved"! (hehe) (The cell-phones-as-lighters thing is cool, especially since a lot of "peeps" did it in the stadium, including "moi"!) (F.F. was fun to "groove" to, too...and The Cribs, too!) Smiler

Okay, I know it's a bit late, but I just found this out today: That whole thing that was going on in the video, you know, "Il m'aime... un peu... beaucoup... etc, is the French version of the "he loves me, he loves me not" game. I don't know whether anyone else noticed that, but whatever. I just wanted to put it out there. Anyway, I think it's an awesome video. One of my favorites.

i was so syked to find out that Death Cab had used my name in a song... Yay for all the Sarah's in the world... but i never really connected with the song, and the clip, although well directed is extremely heavy in concept. it makes me very uncomfortable to watch.

and although clips can sometimes make you love a song more, one has to be careful they don't do the opposite, like this clip has done for me.

Sometimes the director wants you to take your own interpretation of his work.

I DESPISE writers/artists/directors who tell you what to think.

James, I think the key to this video, is really taking it for how it makes you feel. And take it from there.

This video works even without knowing what she's writing.

And I don't think it's an anti-smoking video. Remember, he's FRENCH!!

there's a difference between using your own imagination and interpretations and having no idea what is going on and being forced to amke something up though.

Is there anywhere online where you can watch these videos still? I feel compelled to watch this.
